The KHEA Regional Team’s Visit to Tanzania

Workshop with TOAM, CVCs, associate partners and CoEs

Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM) a CIP on the KCOA-KHEA Project played host to the KHEA management team during it’s four-day visit to Tanzania in April from 24th and 28th 2023.

The visit took place as part of the monitoring and support for the project’s different components to ensure effective project implementation. The KHEA team who participated in the mission included the KHEA Project Manager-Mr. Francis Nsanga, KHEA Regional Knowledge Manager-Mr. Hudson Shiraku, Market Development and Networking Officer-Ms. Margaret Arwari. This team was received by the entire TOAM team in Tanzania led by the CEO Mr Bakari Mongo.

During the visit, the team monitored the status and progress on different project fronts including the interventions in 3 project focus areas and the work of Centers of Excellence (CoE) and Associate Partners. The team also discussed with the Tanzanian counterparts the issue of Master Trainers loss and how to build a complete Tanzanian team of MTs, supported the team on proper program and financial reporting and documentation and finally supported the team on Knowledge Management (KM) and other project focus areas. The project team operationalized the KHEA Market Development &Networking (MD&N) strategy into the Tanzanian context.

To achieve the different objectives of the mission, the trip was organized in form of meetings, workshops, and field visits. Meetings were held between the KHEA Project team and TOAM team, participated in a workshop organized by TOAM and visited partners in the field.

Some of the areas visited include ST Joseph Sustainable Organic Farm a Centre of Excellence on the project working with TOAM, Sustainable Agriculture in Tanzania (SAT) an associate partner of TOAM etc. During the visits, the team discussed how the trainings are being conducted, challenges being faced, and support needed to make the trainings effective and help farmers benefit more. One of the issues that came out was lack of enough resources to facilitate their work and reach out to farmers as the area is vast.

With this visit, better project results are expected from Tanzania due to enhanced efficiency in Phase 2 (June 2022-May 2024) of the KCOA-KHEA Project.
