Master Trainers During one of the Practical Sessions
Master trainers under the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in Eastern Africa (KHEA) underwent a refresher training at the Protea Hotel in Dar-es-Salam- Tanzania between 19th to 21st of July 2023.
The three-day event held under the auspices of IFOAM – Organics International with support from Biovision Africa Trust the lead coordinating agency and PELUM Uganda the Co-Host. It was meant to re-equip master trainers with training skills on organic agriculture. IFOAM is an international partner of the project charged with ensuring quality of the trainings and adherence to organic principles.
This training workshop brought together Master trainers from 4 Country Implementing Partners (CIPs) in which the Master Trainers had been trained.3 KHEA project team was also present led by Mr. Francis Nsanga, Project Manager and supported by Mr. Joseph Nyamesegere, M&E Officer, and Ms. Pamella Magino, Communications Officer.
Some of the key topics covered were Organic and agroecological practices, organic principles, Introduction to a Food Systems approach and BioDistricts/Regions – Exploring some territories in East Africa, Organic markets and value chains in East Africa. Trends and approaches, Organic Guarantee Systems. A collective review, through participatory mode and teamwork.
With this refresher training, the entire trainings under the project and its quality is expected to improve. The project uses the ToToT model where these MTs coach other trainers (multipliers) before they cascade it down to the farmers and therefore their reequipping will transcend the entire project.
