Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology in Eastern Africa (KHEA)

About the KHEA Hub and the KCOA Project
The KHEA Hub is one of five regional hubs implementing the Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology (KCOA) Project in Africa. The project is part of the One World – No Hunger initiative by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), executed through GIZ, supporting a network of knowledge hubs for organic farming across Eastern, Western, Northern, Central, and Southern Africa.

Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) is the Lead Coordinating Agency of the project in Eastern Africa, with Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Uganda serving as Co-Host of the KCOA-KHEA Project.
Project Phases
The project aligns with the Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative (EOA-I), an African Union-led continental program under the oversight of the African Union Commission (AUC) Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (DARBE).
Countries Implementing the KCOA-KHEA Project
Overall Goal

The main goal of the KHEA Project is to ensure that Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) is fully integrated into national agricultural systems across participating countries.

Digital Knowledge Platform (DKP)
A key achievement of the project is the development of the Digital Knowledge Platform (DKP), coordinated by GIZ. Launched during Phase II, the DKP is an online resource providing learning materials and tools for multipliers, farmers, and other value chain actors.
