There are about 60 species of Amaranthus, however, only a limited number are of the cultivated types, while most are considered weedy species and hence rarely preserved. Many amaranth species are collected from the wild for subsistence, while only few are cultivated or occur as protected weeds in backyards and home gardens (Stallknecht and Schulz-Schaeffer, 1993; Ouma; Biovision TTU, ICIPE: Keller, 2004). The flowers are used to produce the grain, while the
leaves are used as a green leafy vegetable.

WATER HARVESTING TECHNIQUES https://biovisionafricatrust.org/water-harvesting-techniques/ Tue, 04 May 2021 09:50:30 +0000 https://biovisionafricatrust.org/?p=12054 In the arid lands of Africa, a lot of rainwater is lost as it falls and flows away. We can harvest a great deal of this water and store it to use when we need it.
The 2 main ways of harvesting rainwater are collecting it from roofs and collecting surface runoff—the water that flows off and when it rains.
When this water is harvested it can be used for farming and domestic activities. After water is harvested from various watersheds, it is conveyed to storage reservoirs.
